Know the signal

Watch means prepare. Warning means act.

01 / Tornado watch

Tornadoes are possible

A tornado watch covers a broader area where conditions can support tornadoes. Review your shelter plan, charge your phone, and keep alerts close.

03 / No active alert

Stay weather-aware

No active warning at one point does not mean a tornado cannot form today. Conditions and alert boundaries can change quickly.

Tornado today FAQ

Fast answers without false certainty.

Is there going to be a tornado today?

No website can promise whether a tornado will form at a specific place. This page checks active National Weather Service watches and warnings. For broader forecast risk, also review the Storm Prediction Center outlook and your local NWS forecast.

Is there a tornado near me?

Use your location or search a city to check official active alerts at that point. A warning is not a live dot showing a tornado’s exact position, and an alert may cover only part of a city, so keep your primary emergency alerts enabled.

Is there a tornado warning near me?

Search your city or tap “Use my location.” A tornado warning applies to a specific warned area and usually lasts a short time. If your phone, sirens, local officials, or NOAA Weather Radio tell you to shelter, act immediately.

Where is the tornado right now?

Warnings often contain a threatened area, observed or radar-indicated status, motion, and official instructions. A warning polygon is not a live tornado tracker: the circulation can change, and some alerts have no map geometry.

What if there is no tornado watch or warning?

“No active tornado alert” only describes the latest response returned for the searched point. It is not an all-clear for the entire city, and it is not a forecast for the rest of the day.
